Foote’s Pond Wood has three entrances, two on James Street and one on Overlook Road, all in Morristown: 

  • Fireplace entrance - This is in the main entrance, marked by a sign and an outdoor fireplace. This entrance is across the street from 132 James Street in Morristown NJ, adjacent to Thomas Jefferson School.

  • Waterfall entrance - This entrance is across the street from 154 James Street, near the waterfall and bridge under James Street.

  • Overlook entrance - This entrance is across the street from 43 Overlook Road Morristown NJ. 

Parking

The park does not have a parking lot. Street parking is generally available near the fireplace and Overlook entrances. Just check for any parking restrictions before you park.  

 

Park hours

Like all Morristown parks, Foote’s Pond Wood is open dawn to dusk seven days per week.  

 

Activities 

Foote’s Pond Wood offers many options for passive recreation. Please review and adhere to the signage at the park entrances.

  • Walking trail - The park contains a 0.6-mile crushed gravel walking trail that loops around Foote’s Pond and can be accessed from all three entrances. There are benches and logs for sitting along the way.  There are also several rustic trails on the far side of the pond from Thomas Jefferson School.

  • The dock - There is a dock on the Thomas Jefferson side of the pond available for fishing and relaxation. It also offers a great view of the turtle raft. 

  • Wildlife - Bird and particularly waterfowl love the park. Turtles of varying sizes live in the pond, and you will also find various mammals including deer, fox, and coyote. As is made clear in the signage, please never feed the wildlife.

  • Tree stump meeting room - A nature-forward area with logs for sitting is used for meetings and nature education, located between Thomas Jefferson School and the dock. 

  • Nature walks - Nature and meditation walks are scheduled occasionally. Visit the the Contact page for further information. 

  • Volunteering / team building - Join us! There is always more work to do in the park. If you would like to volunteer as an individual or as a team event, please visit the Contact page.  

 

Accessibility

The walking trail can be accessed in a wheelchair from the street at the fireplace entrance and the Overlook entrance. While the trail is not paved, it can usually be navigated in a wheelchair with assistance in dry conditions.

 

Restrictions

Please remember a few restrictions when you visit the park: 

  • Do not feed the wildlife

  • No motorized vehicles

  • Respect the park boundaries by remaining off school grounds.
